What to Know Before Your First Laser Facial
If you haven't had a laser/light facial before, you may wonder how it works and how safe it is for your skin. We hope a few of these common questions give you helpful information,
and that you can feel excited to try your first treatment with us!
How long should I expect to spend there? If treatment takes 15 min, what’s the total time I’ll spend at the clinic?
For your first visit to Skinfolio, do come early to fill out our simple intake form which helps us ensure that you can safely use laser treatment. An SA (Skinvestment Advisor) will walk you through the process and answer any questions you may have as we check you in. If you are only doing one treatment, from check-in to payment usually takes 30 minutes. If you are doing a combination of our Liquid/Laser/Light treatments, which we highly recommend, this would take a total of 45 minutes to one hour. We hope this helps you schedule accordingly!
Should I come to an appointment with no makeup on?
You can come in wearing eye make-up (but no undereye concealer), which will be left intact. We will cleanse your skin with micellar water prior to liquid treatment and with a gentle alcohol wipe prior to laser treatment. What is important to note is not to use retinol products for 3 days leading up to a laser/light treatment.
How should I proceed with products after a treatment?
You can put makeup on immediately after your treatment if needed, and mineral based sunscreen can be worn on top of makeup. In the evening only, use a gentle cleanser, and skip retinol products for two nights following a treatment. Other than this, you can follow your regular skincare routine.
Is 20s too young for laser facials? Is teens?
You can start laser facials anytime! IPL treatments can be great for teen and 20s skin since it is calming for redness, and lasers can also help reduce acne flare ups. With our gentle settings, Skinfolio treatments can be beneficial to anyone. If you have any questions or prefer a personalized skin care setting just for you, speak to our Senior Consultant and we can always adjust treatment settings as needed.
If someone has extremely sensitive skin, how does laser facials affect them?
For laser and light treatments, we will always do a patch test first to see how your skin responds. Sensitive skin is also a misconception; most people who have "sensitive skin" actually have unhealthy skin from exposure to too many irritants in the form of fragrance, unsuitable makeup ingredients or improper care. At SKINFOLIO, rather than categorizing skin in traditional sensitive, combo, oily, or dry types, we believe that there really is only healthy skin and unhealthy skin. Our treatments, products, and technology is designed for everyone to achieve healthy skin.
What training or certification does the staff have?
All our botox and filler services are performed by medical doctors certified by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC. This means that we are medically trained to respond to any complications in the rare events of allergic reactions/medical complications. All our laser technicians are required to have at least 2 years of laser experience and assessing skin response to lasers before working at our clinics. Skinfolio’s team holds ourselves to the highest medical standards and recommend treatments and products based on scientific evidence.
We hope this overview gives you a good idea of what you can expect, and we look forward to seeing you soon!
