Aging Lips: A Unique Process
Unlike other areas of the face, the delicate skin of the lips lacks oil glands, making it particularly vulnerable to dryness and moisture loss. With age, the crisp vermillion border, which defines the lip's edge, becomes less distinct. The lip tissue itself thins and flattens, and vertical lines, often called 'lipstick lines,' begin to etch into the skin around the mouth. These changes can cause lipstick to bleed, create an appearance of pursed or thinned lips, and contribute to an overall aged look, even if the rest of the face remains relatively youthful.
