Discoloration Correction

Discoloration Correction

Discoloration Correction — treatment
Laser — in clinic

Discoloration Correction is Skinfolio’s customized Pico laser treatment for unwanted pigmentation and uneven-looking skin tone. The treatment uses ultra-short laser pulses to target selected pigment while minimizing unnecessary heat exposure to the surrounding tissue.

Depending on the type and depth of discolouration, your provider may recommend a Pico Pigmentation or Pico Melasma protocol. Treatment is customized because sun spots, freckles, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and melasma do not respond in the same way.

★★★★★
I wanted to edit my original review as that was literally over 3 years ago. I am still a very consistent client at Skinfolio and my skin has never looked better. I have aged backwards and I have learned a really great routine at home for my skincare regimen. I've done pico laser, microneedling, liquid facials, laser lifts etc. and they're all fantastic with consistent results. I think this clinic is one of the best in Vancouver and I am so glad they're here!

How Pico Laser Technology Works

Pico laser technology delivers energy in extremely short pulses measured in picoseconds. These rapid pulses create a photoacoustic effect that breaks targeted pigment into smaller fragments while limiting prolonged heat exposure.

The body gradually processes the fragmented pigment over the following weeks. Results depend on the pigment’s cause, depth and colour, as well as the wavelength and settings used.

Pico Pigmentation Treatment

The Pico Pigmentation protocol is designed for more defined areas of excess pigment, including freckles, sun spots and selected post-inflammatory marks.

Treated spots may initially become darker before gradually flaking or fading. Superficial, well-defined pigmentation may respond more quickly than diffuse or deeper discolouration.

Pico Melasma Treatment

Melasma is a complex, recurring pigmentation condition influenced by hormones, sun exposure, heat, inflammation and genetics. Pico laser may be incorporated into a conservative treatment plan, but it is not suitable for every case.

Aggressive laser treatment can worsen or reactivate melasma. Skin preparation, conservative settings, sun protection and medical-grade home care are essential components of treatment.

What to Expect?

Your appointment begins with cleansing, photography and an assessment of the pigmentation. Protective eyewear is required, and topical numbing may be applied depending on the area and protocol.

The laser handpiece delivers rapid pulses across the selected areas. Clients commonly describe warmth, tingling or a sensation similar to small elastic-band snaps. A complete appointment takes approximately 45–60 minutes, including preparation and aftercare.

FAQ

Everything you need to know.

Discoloration Correction is Skinfolio’s customized Pico laser treatment for selected pigmentation concerns, including sun spots, freckles, post-inflammatory marks and melasma.

Yes. Pico laser is the technology used within Skinfolio’s Discoloration Correction treatment.

Pico Pigmentation targets defined spots such as freckles and sun damage. Pico Melasma uses a more conservative approach for diffuse, recurring pigmentation that can be aggravated by heat and inflammation.

It delivers extremely short pulses that produce a photoacoustic effect, fragmenting targeted pigment so it can gradually be processed by the body.

Pico laser uses selected laser wavelengths and ultra-short pulses to target pigment. IPL uses a broad spectrum of light and primarily relies on heat. IPL may also address redness, while Pico laser is often selected for more targeted pigmentation concerns.

It may help selected cases, but melasma can worsen after heat or inflammation. Treatment must be conservative and combined with sun protection and appropriate home care.

It may be appropriate for deeper skin tones when the correct wavelength and conservative settings are used. A consultation is required because burns and pigmentation changes remain possible.

It may improve brown post-inflammatory marks after active acne has settled. Red or pink post-acne marks involve blood vessels and may require a different treatment.

Some Pico laser devices can treat tattoos, but tattoo removal uses a separate protocol and is not included in Discoloration Correction unless Skinfolio specifically offers that service.

Yes, when appropriately timed. Your provider may combine Pico laser with medical-grade skincare, chemical peels or other procedures as part of a broader pigmentation plan.

Yes. Correctly identifying the type and cause of pigmentation is essential before selecting a Pico laser protocol.
